The Advanced Diploma in Nursing (Oncology) course will offer the following modules:

(1) Applied Pathophysiology and Pharmacology in Oncology Nursing (60 hours)

(2) Health Assessment and Clinical Decision-Making (45 hours)

(3) Principles in Oncology Nursing Practice (60 hours)

(4) Care and Communication in Oncology Nursing (60 hours)

Total training hours: 225

What You'll Learn

At the completion of the PDC, learners will be able to:

(1) Explain the disease process of chronic health conditions and malignancies states of clients with oncology conditions in relation to general and systemic pathological concepts;

(2) Explain clinical responses in the usage/management of drugs commonly used in the treatment of chronic health conditions, including malignancies with reference to pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics concepts;

(3) Perform physical examination to make appropriate clinical decision and interventions by using a systematic approach;

(4) Plan for care for common problems associated with cancer and its treatment modalities for clients with oncology conditions with reference to the clinical treatment and management guidelines;

(5) Develop specific care plans for oncologic clients in emergency care and symptom palliation with reference to the clinical treatment and management guidelines; and

(6) Demonstrate good communication in managing psychosocial-emotional responses with clients and their significant others by applying the concept of therapeutic communication and appropriate psychosocial-emotional response strategies.

Minimum Entry Requirement

• Diploma in Nursing from a local Polytechnic or an equivalent qualification;
• Singapore Nursing Board registration;
• 2 years post registration experience with a minimum of 1 year in the discipline of study.
