Profile
This course focuses on chemistry, chemical processes, safety, laboratory management, data analytics, life sciences and industrial chemistry with applications in quality control, quality assurance, testing services, medical diagnostic testing, application and product development. It equips laboratory assistants or students with equivalent roles with the knowledge and skills required to undertake new roles in the following Skills Framework:
- Energy and Chemicals (Laboratory Technician/Technologist)
- Biopharmaceuticals Manufacturing (Quality Assurance Assistance/Quality Control Assistant Laboratory Analyst/Quality Control Laboratory Analyst/Chemist/Microbiologist)
- Food Manufacturing (Quality Control Technician/Quality Control Assistant/Laboratory Technician)
It is a broad-based applied science education with emphasis on chemistry, chemical processes, life science modules and laboratory skills. This course provides training to work as a competent laboratory analyst and essential skills to execute tasks related to process technicians.
What You'll Learn
This module aims to provide students with laboratory skills and the theoretical knowledge of Petrochemicals & Its Applications. Detailed knowledge of the various processes to convert petrochemicals to basic building blocks followed by their conversion to useful common and specialty chemicals, as well as their importance to Singapore's economy will be taught. In addition, the role of the specialty chemicals derived from petrochemicals will be covered. Students will acquire the essential skills to determine the physical and chemical properties of petroleum products and petrochemicals.
Minimum Entry Requirement
GCE 'O' Levels:
3 relevant passes and 1-year relevant working experience:
English Language with min. grade: D7
Mathematics with min. grade: C6
Science with min. grade: C6
FT Nitec:
GPA > 3.5 OR
GPA > 3.0 and 1 year of relevant working experience
PT Nitec in Technology/Services:
GPA > 3.5 and 1 year of relevant working experience
FT Higher Nitec:
GPA > 2.0 OR
GPA > 1.5 and 1 year of relevant working experience
PT Higher Nitec in Technology/Services:
GPA > 2.0 and 1 year of relevant working experience
WSQ Diploma:
Relevant WSQ Advanced Certificate (or higher) with 1 year of relevant working experience and Level 6 for both WSQ Workplace Literacy SOA & Workplace Numeracy SOA.
Without any of the relevant academic qualifications:
At least 2 years of relevant working experience
Recognition of Prior Learning:
Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on supporting evidence of competency readiness
