This course aims to equip diploma (and above) holders with practical knowledge and skills to protect the network infrastructure of the organisation in the area of Network Security, Firewall & Intrusion Prevention, Wireless Network & Security and Network Analysis & Forensics.
Students will:
- Understand the fundamental concepts on the need for Network security
- Recommend and implement the necessary security solutions by implementing perimeter security, network hardening measures and authentication
- Understand concept of wireless security and how to prevent undesirable users accessing the access point.
- Use analysis tools to perform forensic tests to determine the nature of any security breaches and exploits
What You'll Learn
The course introduces students with the fundamental concepts on the need for network security and the commonly used firewall technology implementations. Students will be able to identify the threats and vulnerabilities of computer systems and networks and recommend the appropriate actions and technologies to counter-act such threats. The course also covers the fundamental knowledge in wireless networking, wireless security and how to prevent unauthorised access to the wireless access point. Students will also learn how to use analysing tools to perform forensic test to determine the nature of security breaches and exploits. In the project module, students will integrate the acquired knowledge into a practical application in ensuring the security of the network. All modules are taught with extensive hands-on sessions as well as theoretical discussions.
Minimum Entry Requirement
- 3 Applicants should have at least a polytechnic diploma in electrical, electronic engineering or computer related discipline. Applicants from other disciplines but with relevant working experience may be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- 4 Applicants who do not meet the entry requirements may be considered for admission to the course based on evidence of at least 5 years of relevant working experience or supporting evidence of competency readiness. Suitable applicants who are shortlisted will have to go through an interview and/or entrance test. The Polytechnic reserves the right to shortlist and admit applicants.
