Family Violence (fv), Substance Abuse and Mental Health in Child Protection

Participants will be able to:

• Describe the dynamics of key risk factors "“ Family Violence (FV), parental alcohol, substance abuse and mental health "“when undertaking assessments;
• Illustrate the impact of FV, parental alcohol, substance abuse and mental health on parenting capacity and possible consequences on children;

Explain how to incorporate assessment and planning information into Partnering for Safety (PFS) and Structured Decision-making (SDM) practice tool.

What You'll Learn

Participants will learn the nature of family complexity and the implications for child protection service delivery. The session will focus on the dynamics of Family Violence (FV), substance abuse and mental health on parenting capacity and possible consequences on child. The session will also include case planning intervention strategies when working with families involving FV, substance use and mental health.

Minimum Entry Requirement

Degree in social work or psychology.

For other degree disciplines, participants should have at least 1 year of experience in working closely with CPS on child protection concern.
