Curriculum Design and Development for Early Childhood Education (classroom and Asynchronous E-Learning)

This course delves into the theoretical and practical aspects of early childhood curriculum approaches across different contexts and time periods. Participants will closely examine various paradigms that shape views on children and education, exploring their practical implications. It aims to enhance participants' roles as curriculum developers, theorists, and advocates by fostering the use of critical perspectives in curriculum design. Early childhood leaders, teachers, curriculum specialists, and others in child-related services will develop competencies in reflective practice, practitioner inquiry, diversity and inclusion, and collaborative stakeholder engagement, essential for planning, evaluating, and designing quality curriculum. By the end of the course, learners will develop a reflexive and responsive approach to curriculum design and development.

• Describe the relationship between 'curriculum' and its underlying assumptions of children and education and apply this knowledge in the planning of quality curriculum.
• Evaluate curricular models drawn from multiple lenses that reflect its multiplicity and plurality to critically design possible ways to transform it in different contexts.
• Apply frameworks to design and evaluate curricular models.

Minimum Entry Requirement

No pre-requisites are needed to enroll in the course. However, participants without qualifications or working experience in relevant Early childhood care and education settings and/or related fields may find the course's contents challenging.
