Profile
For many young people growing up in the townships around Durban, Elangeni TVET College has become the practical next step after school. The college started back in 2002 when Pinetown, Sivananda in KwaMashu, and Ntuzuma Technical Colleges came together. Back then it was known as Sivananda FET College before it grew into Elangeni TVET College. That merger brought together strong roots in technical education, and the college has kept expanding with new campuses in places like Inanda, KwaDabeka, Mpumalanga, Ndwedwe, Ntuzuma and Qadi.
You will find National Certificate Vocational courses and Nated streams in engineering, business, hospitality and agriculture, plus occupational training at the Inchanga Skills and Artisans Centre.
Lately the college has made headlines with its first group of Aircraft Maintenance Mechanics students at Inanda Campus and the launch of a 4IR Centre at Mpumalanga Campus to bring in robotics and modern technology. Strong ties with SETAs help with funding, equipment and workplace placements.
The campuses sit close to where people stay, so getting there is usually simple. Pinetown Campus offers easy access from the main roads, while KwaMashu, Ntuzuma and Inanda serve the northern townships. Further out, Mpumalanga, Qadi and the others spread towards Hammarsdale and Botha’s Hill. Most students use taxis or buses and reach their classes without too much trouble.
