Profile
For students living in Vereeniging, Vanderbijlpark, Sebokeng, and the broader Sedibeng district, Sedibeng TVET College has long been the most accessible route into a real, practical qualification. The college — known around the area simply as Sedcol — serves between 17,000 and 21,000 students a year across its four campuses, making it one of the larger TVET colleges in Gauteng by enrolment. The campuses are rooted in their communities, and the college has clearly been built with the specific needs of the Sedibeng region in mind.
Sedcol’s administrative headquarters sit in Vereeniging’s CBD at Voortrekker Street, with campuses in Vereeniging, Vanderbijlpark, Sebokeng, and Heidelberg. Most students in the district can reach their nearest campus by taxi without too much hassle. Heidelberg is the furthest out at roughly 69km from the central office, but for students in that part of the southern Gauteng region, it fills a genuine gap that few other institutions cover.
TVET courses in Vereeniging at Sedcol span engineering and business NATED programmes from N1 through N6, as well as NCV qualifications across a wide range of subjects.
What’s worth noting is that the college has been deliberately aligning its offering with Fourth Industrial Revolution skills, including mechatronics, which is a field that combines mechanical, electrical, and computing knowledge.
In 2023, Sedibeng TVET College hosted a World Skills South Africa Mechatronics Competition at its Vereeniging Campus, a three-day event run in partnership with the Department of Higher Education and Training, FESTO as equipment sponsor, and Ford South Africa. That’s the kind of industry connection that actually matters to students who want to graduate into a job, not just a certificate.
Student support at Sedcol is taken seriously. The college offers career counselling, psycho-social support, academic assistance, health and wellbeing services, and dedicated work readiness and exam readiness programmes. NSFAS guidance is also available on campus, which is important for the majority of students who rely on government funding to study.
