Madonna College of Health Technology has quickly become an important part of Abia State’s efforts to strengthen healthcare in the region. In an area where rural clinics and primary health centres often struggle to find skilled staff, this young college focuses on training the kind of health workers who can make a real difference in communities around Umuahia and beyond.
Established in 2020 by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Umuahia, the college grew from the vision of local priests and the bishop to fill gaps in the diocesan health facilities, especially in the hinterland. It sits along Olokoro Road, just off the Isi-court junction on Aba Road, a short five-minute drive from the junction and only three minutes from Ahia Ukwu Market in Olokoro. The campus spreads across a serene, open stretch of land that feels calm and purposeful.
The college runs National Diploma programmes in Community Health Extension Worker, Public Health, Pharmacy Technicians, and Medical Laboratory Technicians. These courses blend classroom work with practical training designed to prepare graduates for primary and secondary health facilities.
Hostel accommodation is available and kept simple and affordable, while the library offers both physical books and online resources to support serious study.
