Coastal KZN TVET College

Coastal KZN TVET College has become a trusted choice for many young people in Durban and across KwaZulu-Natal who want practical training that leads to real jobs. With eight campuses and thousands of students, it is one of the biggest TVET colleges in the province and situated right in the heart of the coastal area.

The college traces its roots to a merger of the old Durban Technical College, Swinton Road Technical College and Umlazi Technical College, together with the former Umbumbulu and Appelsbosch Colleges of Education. That history gives it a deep well of technical know-how and a genuine understanding of both trades and teaching.

Today it runs National Certificate Vocational programmes, Nated engineering and business streams, and a growing suite of QCTO-accredited occupational courses that are built hand-in-hand with industry.

At Swinton Campus in Mobeni you’ll find the Toyota Manufacturing Academy, complete with state-of-the-art automotive bays where students train on the same equipment used on the factory floor. The Samsung Engineering Academy delivers specialist air-conditioning and refrigeration programmes, while the Tooling Centre of Excellence and Steel Fabrication workshops give hands-on experience that employers in Durban and beyond actively look for. Bursary help is straightforward, accommodation is available at selected sites, and the placement office works hard to line up the in-service training that turns an N6 into a full National Diploma.
