Profile
Tshwane North TVET College is one of the most well-known TVET colleges in Pretoria, and it’s easy to see why so many students choose it each year. The college has six campuses spread across the northern parts of Tshwane — Pretoria, Mamelodi, Rosslyn, Soshanguve North, Soshanguve South, and Temba. Most campuses are within 25km of the central office in Pretoria’s inner city, so getting there by taxi is manageable for most students in the area.
The college goes by the name TNC, and it serves between 15,000 and 21,000 students at any one time. That’s a big college. The central office is in the middle of Pretoria, and the Pretoria Campus itself is on Helen Joseph Street in Arcadia. It’s easy to reach from many parts of the city.
The college’s central office is in the inner city of Pretoria, with campuses distributed across Mamelodi, Pretoria, Rosslyn, Soshanguve North, Soshanguve South, and Temba. Five of those campuses are within 25km of the central office, with Temba being the furthest out at around 41km. For students in Soshanguve, Mamelodi, and the broader northern Pretoria corridor, TNC is genuinely accessible — taxi routes connect most of these areas, and the Pretoria Campus on Helen Joseph Street in Arcadia is well-positioned for students coming from across the metro.
TVET courses in Pretoria at TNC span engineering, business studies, IT, hospitality, tourism, and public management, offered across NCV and NATED programmes.
Electrical engineering at Tshwane North TVET College is a consistently popular choice, particularly given the college’s proximity to the Rosslyn industrial area, which houses automotive manufacturers and a range of technical employers. The college has formalised partnerships with institutions including TUT, UNISA, Bidvest, the City of Tshwane, and the DTI, along with MoUs signed with multiple SETAs covering health and welfare, transport, food and beverage, and wholesale and retail sectors. Those links translate into real work-integrated learning placements for students completing NATED qualifications.
TNC launched its artisanship development programmes back in 2014, covering bricklaying, fitting and turning, and electrical engineering. The college has also run a locksmith programme at its Mamelodi Campus in partnership with the Locksmith Association of South Africa and SASSETA, specifically targeting students from disadvantaged backgrounds and orphanages in the area.
More recently, the college has been offering occupational programmes in solar photovoltaic servicing and welding at NQF Level 5.
