Profile
Situated at the industrial heart of Gauteng’s East Rand, Ekurhuleni East TVET College has spent more than two decades building a reputation that local employers actually trust. Formed in 2001 through the merger of several long-standing technical colleges — including Benoni Technical, Springs Technical, and others that had already been part of the community for roughly twenty years — EEC didn’t start from scratch. It inherited decades of vocational muscle and grew from there.
Today it’s one of the more respected TVET colleges in Ekurhuleni, and for students from Springs, Brakpan, Daveyton, Benoni, and Kwa-Thema, it’s often the obvious first choice.
The college sits in a metropolitan municipality that’s home to some serious heavy industry — Gibela, SAPPI, Mondi, Kimberly-Clark, and Impala are among the employers the college works with for workplace learning placements. TVET courses in Ekurhuleni need to be practical and industry-relevant, and EEC’s engineering, business, and artisan programmes are built with that in mind. N1 to N6 NATED qualifications, National Certificate Vocational programmes across civil engineering, electrical infrastructure, hospitality, IT, and business studies — the spread is broad enough to suit students with very different interests.
The Artisan and Skills Development Centre, established in 2015, is the college’s crown jewel and sets it apart from most other public TVET colleges in the country. It’s one of a small number of dedicated artisan training centres in South Africa, and it’s equipped to produce trade-ready graduates who can move directly into apprenticeships and industry.
The six campuses spread across five towns mean that most students in the eastern metro can reach EEC without a long commute. Kwa-Thema Campus, situated on Sam Ngema Road in Springs, serves as the administrative hub. Public transport routes connect the campuses reasonably well to surrounding residential areas, and the college’s footprint across Benoni, Brakpan, Daveyton, Springs, and Kwa-Thema means there’s usually a campus within reach.
Student support services, including NSFAS guidance, counselling, and library access, are available across campuses.
