Profile
Flavius Mareka TVET College has earned its place as one of the Free State’s most industrially connected public colleges, and its location in Sasolburg tells you a lot about what makes it tick. This is a town built on petrochemicals, heavy manufacturing, and skilled trades; and the college has grown up alongside that economy, shaped by it and, in many ways, shaping it right back. For students in the Fezile Dabi District and the wider Vaal Triangle, it’s a serious option that deserves serious consideration.
Established in 2000 through the merger of Sasolburg Technical College, Kroonstad Technical College and Mphohadi College of Education, the college carries the name of Flavius Mareka, a dedicated educator and community figure from Kroonstad. The Sasolburg campus, with its two dedicated sites for Engineering Studies and Business Studies, sits conveniently close to town centre.
The college offers a broad range of TVET courses in Sasolburg across both the NCV (National Certificate Vocational) and the traditional N-course stream, covering Engineering Studies, Business Studies, and vocational programmes that align closely with what local and regional employers actually hire for.
Engineering at Flavius Mareka TVET College has a particular edge — the proximity to Sasol and related industries means that students training in mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering subjects aren’t studying in a vacuum.
Business Studies is equally strong, with programmes in Financial Management, Marketing, and Office Administration attracting students who want a genuine employment prospects. NSFAS funding is available for eligible students, and the college’s administrative staff are generally helpful in guiding first-time applicants through what can feel like a daunting process.
