Profile
Port Elizabeth TVET College has become the Eastern Cape’s biggest TVET institution, sitting right in the middle of Gqeberha where the province’s busiest economy turns. In a city built on manufacturing, the automotive sector, port activity and coastal tourism, the college quietly keeps producing young people who step straight into real jobs rather than queuing for opportunities that never arrive.
Formed in January 2002 through the merger of Bethelsdorp, Iqhayiya and Russell technical colleges, it carries the combined strength of those older institutions while staying firmly focused on what the Nelson Mandela Bay region actually needs today.
The college runs across several campuses that feel part of the city rather than set apart from it. Russell Road Campus occupies a historic building in the central business district, easy to reach by minibus taxi or MyCiTi bus from most parts of Gqeberha. Dower Campus lies further north on the edge of Salt Lake and West End, while Iqhayiya serves learners from the surrounding townships.
You won’t find fancy glass-and-steel structures here, but the workshops and lecture rooms hum with practical work, and the urban spread means students stay close to the industries they’re training for.
The college offers a wide range of NATED and NCV programmes across fields like Engineering Studies, Business Studies, Information Technology, and Tourism. It’s also registered to offer learnerships and skills programmes that connect students to the labour market through structured workplace experience.
